Description
This is a Lot of historical aviation items from the 1923 San Francisco Aerial Day Ceremony. This event was begun by famed female aviator Lillian Gatlin who in 1922 became the first woman to fly across the continental United States. Lillian was involved with and taught to fly by famous aviator Lincoln Beachey who was killed in San Francisco practicing for his aerobatic performance for the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition. Ms. Gatlin organized the San Francisco Aerial Day as a memorial to fallen early aviators. In these photos she is seen with many mothers of these aviators including Lincoln Beachey's mothsr. Also in the photos she is shown standing with WWI ace Eddie Rickenbacker as well as getting in an airplane piloted by Rickenbacker to drop a flower wreath on the bay where Beachey was killed. There are several photos of the event included as well as some other Lillian Gatlin aviation photos and also many newspaper clippings some of which published the same photos included. Also included is an Original Aerial Day poster sign and several original event paper tickets.
