Gilt bronze, over 2 5/8” (2.66”) inside dimension with modeled serpent (snake) head with tail opposite. The head modeled in detail with particularly angular surfaces, probably alluding to a mythical model. Round section tapering to the well delineated tail. The serpent has multiple meanings in Viking mythology. Jormungandr was the World Serpent who circled the world biting his own tail. As well, they believed in sea serpents which added to the perils of sailing unknown waters. This bracelet would have been worn by a man or woman to protect against these mythical serpents. Degraded from burial with a little loss and surface texture, but sound and quite smooth. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
