Item Details

Description

DESCRIPTION: (3Pc) Antique French onyx mantel clock and garniture set featuring a patinated sculpture after French artist Auguste Moreau's work titled "Le char de l'aurore" (translated: The Chariot of Dawn) mounted atop the clock body and depicting a woman holding arching fabric above her head, standing in a chariot with details of wheels and a putto holding an arrow at her side. In addition, the clock presents an green onyx body with bevels and ears atop four dore sculptural foliage designed feet, and further sculptural dore framing around the white clock face. Completed with two, five armed garniture bronze candelabras with sculptural foliate scroll designs throughout, onyx bases, and four dore feet.

Nameplate at the front of the sculpture impressed "Char de la Jeunesse", impressed foundry mark at the backside "Fabrication Francaise Made in France Paris", and an incised signature "Aug Moreau" at the backside. Movement is impressed with a cypher mark.

Professionally repaired at the woman's left wrist Minor chipping and scratching to the lacquer at the sculpture. Wear off of the gilding.
