[SHIRASE, Nobu (1861-1946)]. JAPANESE ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION SUPPORT COMMITTEE (1910-1912). Nankyoku-ki [in English: Records of Antarctica]. Edited by Shirase Nankyoku Tanken o Shinobu Kay. Preface by Count Shigenobu Okuma. Tokyo: Hakubunka, 4 September 1984.

8vo (222 x 146 mm). 67 plates including 6 full-page in color, numerous drawings in the text, folding map at end; General Maresuke Nogi's facsimile card mounted on stiff paper as issued. Original dark-blue cloth with silver-lettering, upper cover embossed with an inset Antarctic mountain scene and dog sledge in foreground, framed in silver; original commemorative printed slipcase.

SHIRASE MEMORIAL EDITION or the third edition, originally published in 1913. The collation is similar to earlier printings with some significant exceptions. This special memorial edition contains several black-and-white full-page plates not included in earlier editions. All images appear to be of slightly higher contrast than in earlier editions. A FINE COPY. Ross 1.5.3 (“Scarce”).
