Late 19th/early 20th century
With a plaque to the interior front edge: Boyes, Bassett & Co., Shanghai; further marked with a second plaque: Rd No 541493
Retailed by Boyes, Bassett & Co., Shanghai, the fold-out poudreuse with book-matched mahogany veneer to the exterior, hinged lid opening to reveal a tryptic mirror, numerous inset cubbies in lacquered ivory wood for manicure pieces such as vanity jars, brushes, combs and hand mirrors, various leather-lined compartments to the interior fore beneath a glazed hinged lid, a hidden drawer behind, two beveled glass fold-out extensions, and two locking drawers to the exterior on either side; set upon four marlborough tapered legs, each with a brass end cap and caster

Condition
Overall good condition with scattered scuffs, scratches, nicks, shrinkage cracks, indentations, and separation at joints commensurate with age and use. The velvet lining to the interior with heavy wear to the pile and scattered bald areas. Likewise, the moire silk lining the same compartments is brittle and flaking off with multiple losses. The lacquered wood inserts with crazing, flaking, and losses to the ivory finish throughout. Lacking key.
