This pretty Japanese Obi, made in Japan, but looks like made for American Export.?It is 100% rayon and was purchased sometime between 1962 and 1964.? Beautiful red, pink and gold with black accent embroidery.? Retains original labels and price tag.??
Seibu Department Store was the first Japanese department store in the United States.? They operated on multiple floors with multiple retailers on the corner of Wilshire and Fairfax.? Opening their doors in 1962, the store attracted little business and closed it's doors in 1964.? The space is currently the home of The Petersen Automotive Museum.
