BIOGRAPHY:
Active in California between 1928 and 1957, Carl Thorp studied at the Academy of Fine Art in San Diego with Maurice Braun and Alfred Mitchell. He was a member of the Society of Western Artists and the Northern California Artist Association.Carl continued his work and teaching in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the French Quarter until 1975, when he moved to Franklinton, Louisiana. There he maintained a studio and taught until his death in 1989.He spent summers painting in Rockport, Massachusetts, and always showed at the Annual Washington Square Arts Show in New York City.The Gabor sisters were great fans and purchased several of his paintings.
