Description
Middle Tennessee Federal secretary bookcase, two part construction, cherry primary and poplar secondary. The upper section with a flaring ogee molded cornice and dentil molding, above two paneled doors featuring figured panels and enclosing a fitted interior with 4 shelves (two divided). The lower desk section has a slant front lid enclosing an interior with central prospect door over one small drawer, flanked on each side by two vertical drawers and pigeonholes over two short drawers; four graduated dovetailed and cockbeaded drawers with oval brasses, on a base with bracket feet having spur returns. Overall height 94 1/2"H. Top section measures 50 1/4" H x 43" W x 12 1/2" D. Base measures: 44 1/4" H x 38 1/4" W x 22 1/4" D. Circa 1825.

Condition
Refinished surface exhibiting some areas of sand marks and sun fading. Feet have been reconstructed of older and new timber. Hinges to slant front lid are old replacements with patch work. Scattered insect tracks on bottom drawer and moulding. Some of the drawer backs have been partially sawed at the upper edge for an unknown reason. Scattered wood shrinkage.
