BIOGRAPHY:
Volz is as Animal painter and landscape painter known. Especially for his quality paintings with cows. In 1834 he went to the academy in Munich. His fine studies after the Dutch, in the Pinakothek and after nature were particularly beneficial for his work. He was influenced by Albrecht Adam and his friends Carl Spitzweg and Eduard Schleich the Elder. A. Sometimes he painted the cows in Schleich's landscapes. He initially worked as an etcher and lithographer and at the same time painted landscapes from the Bavarian mountains until the end of the 1930s. After seeing the painting "The Young Bull" by Paulus Potter in Holland in 1841, he devoted himself primarily to animal painting. He turned to the Bavarian plain, especially Lake Starnberg, and painted cattle, horses, sheep and goats grazing or drinking. After traveling to Belgium and Holland in 1846, he joined the Dutch mood painters, in which he was encouraged by the influence of Christian Morgenstern and Eduard Schleich. In the numerous landscapes with animal staff he created from the beginning of the 1950s, he attached great importance to lighting and the mood in humid air, preferring sometimes a warm golden tone, sometimes a cool silvery tone. Voltz showed the animals lying or standing without much movement, but achieved painterly drama through the strong alternation of light and shadow.
