Description
Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 8th to 11th century CE. A set of 4 petite ingots of silver ranging from 65.31% to 88.61% in purity. The oblong forms made them easier to smelt by experienced silversmiths and were used for trade throughout Viking trade lands. Size of largest: 1.86" L x 0.39" W x 0.23" H (4.7 cm x 1 cm x 0.6 cm); silver quality: between 65.31% and 88.61%; total weight: 39.4 grams
Provenance: ex-private Orange, California collection, acquired through European art markets between the 1970’s and 1990’s
