A SUMERIAN CUNEIFORM TABLET, THIRD DYNASTY OF UR, REGARDING STATE COMMERCE, YEAR 48 IN REIGN OF SHULGI, MESOPOTAMIA, 3RD CENTURY BC, red clay with cuneiform and impressions listing animals, silver, and garments for the payment of tax or debt. Height: 2 3/4" Width: 2" Depth: 3/4" Note: Note from original receipt includes translation, "5 donkeys the value of five oxen Enkas has received; 1/3 mana of silver receipted by Dadaga; 7 large sheep the value of 3 1/2 shekels of silver receipted by Ur-Nisaba, 6 minas of garments receipted by the governor; 1/1/2 shekels of silver - the agreed price, the remainder to be made up by Basha. Month IV, the year following Kimash was destroyed, the year following it," and, "Sealed by Ur-Sara the scribe, son of Lugal-nanga."Reference: Further insight regarding Ur is found within The University of Chicago Press Journals, in an article from Journal of Cuneiform Studies, Volume 24, Number 4, P.A. Parr writes in 1972 about Lugal-Nangara, cattle-overseer in Umma, "The letter, BM111374, is from Ur-Lisi, Governor of Umma, who is known to have held this post under kings of Ur, from Šulgi 35 to Amar-Suen 8...Ur-Lisi's letter is directed to Lugal-Nangara, who was cattle-overseer of the Šara temple at Umma, and father of Ur-Šara, scribe, who became chancellor. Lugal-nangara was the son of A-Duru, and brother of Lu-dingir-ra...The letter orders Lugal-nangara to supply 300 bundles of reeds to Šu-Suen. This very probably was the prince, son of Šulgi, and brother to Amar-Suen whom he was to succeed on the throne. References to him at Umma are rare..."Provenance: Collection of Ronald J.
