Description
French Industrial Windmill Automated Clock
Attributed to Guilmet, circa 1885. Bronze case on a marble base in the form of a windmill displaying the time on a silvered dial with additional displays of barometric pressure and multi-temperature reading thermometers. The clock movement goes eight days with a platform escapement timepiece movement. The vanes of the windmill turn continuously for several hours quite engagingly. They are powered by a separate automation movement located within the base, which is wound through the small door in the front. Comparative Literature: Derek Roberts, Mystery, Novelty and Fantasy Clocks, Schiffer, 1999, pgs. 265 and 268.
