Description
Two Jacobite Engraved Commemorative Rummer Glasses. Georgian period glasses, expressing sympathies toward the Jacobite King James, and antipathy toward the House of Hanover. The first with tapering bowl on squared foot, the engraved band with undulating foliate vine issuing leaves, centering the image of a dead man hanging on a jib. The second, very crisply engraved with Tudor Rose, closed and open rose buds on vines, under three crowns, the verso engraved with a full figure of the Devil, carrying the House of Hanover in his arms. Circa 1790 - 1800. {Approximate dimensions: 4 3/16" H. x 3 3/4" W., the first; The second7" H. x 3 3/4" W.}. Condition: Bowl rings true to both examples. The first, on square base with chips to corners and polished, smoothed pontil. The second, with cloudiness to the glubular air bubble under the primary bowl, over a thick wafer, with rough pontil. Please ask for additional photographs and / or a Facetime or Zoom review.
