Description
BRITISH COLONIAL SCRIMSHAW DECORATED POWDER HORN, well-detailed carving including depictions of a three-mast sailing ship labeled "THE NEW YORK PACKETT", an emu with "THE WONDRA" above, King William IV and Queen Adelaide, a large anchor, the initials "G.C. / A.P.", etc., facetted throat and neck interrupted by copper-tack-decorated bands, serrated base edge with original inset cap. Circa 1835. 12 3/4" L.
Catalogue Note: The New York Packet was a 270-ton merchant ship built in Bristol, England 1823. It made many voyages bringing immigrants and goods to the United States and Australia. Some of the passengers were convicts.

Condition
Very good condition with an area of loss and cracking along the rim, small hole punched into edge of rim and cap.Â
