GERMAN MEISSEN PORCELAIN BLANC DE CHINE CUP AND SAUCER SETS, LOT OF TWO, each featuring relief prunus blossom decoration. Each having underglaze blue-crossed swords mark to underside. Royal Porcelain Manufactory, Meissen, Germany. Circa 1725. 2" HOA, cup 3 1/8" D rim.
Catalogue Note: Blanc de Chine was first produced in Dehua, China as early as the 10th century. By the 12th century, this beautiful white porcelain began to enter overseas markets. It was during the early 18th century, that Europeans, specifically Meissen, began manufacturing their own blanc de Chine wares. By the end of the 18th century, blanc de Chine-type wares were being made in Germany, France, and England.
