Description
Warren MacKenzie, a masterful potter, recognized as one of the best worldwide, really showed his skill in making this pitcher on the potter's wheel. The shape is tall and elegant, its profile shows the form, wide at the mouth, tapering towards the middle and flaring at the base. The = shino glaze fired beautifully, alternating portions of white and rust, with iron spots speckling all over. As a novice guessing at the glazing process, it cannot be determined whether the striking effects were planned, or was it a accidental effect from the firing process. Even so, Professor MacKenzie who had worked with the famous Japanese potter I would venture to say that Professor MacKenzie had much experience working with world famous potter Leach and Hamada would appreciate the accidental and unintended resulted from the firing, His signature square mark is stamped at the end of the handle. This pitcher was purchased in 1998 from Stillwater, Minnesota.
