Description
Japanese Vintage Textile (Fukusa) was used to wrap gifts for formal or special occasions. The practice of using textiles for gift wrapping began as early as the 17th-18th century. The fukusa features a maiden of immortality with the tiger, a protective deity. Created out of silk, it is meticulously made with appliqued silk brocade, hand painted details and embellishments like metal claws and plastic eyes. The monumental tiger admires the maiden; his tail even echoes the flowing brocade silk scarf of her garment. Her face is delicately painted as is the tiger's fur.The fukusa is lined with red silk brocade with cranes and cherry blossom pattern The fukusa comes in its own box crafted of paulownia wood.
