A Rare Edward Troughton Silver Box Sextant, English, circa 1810, signed Troughton London and numbered 40, with fore and back sights, magnifier and double scale divided from 0º to 120º and above it is another scale divided from 210º to 120º, coloured filter operated by button, in ornate guilloche decorated case with lid and in original velvet lined red leather case, 2 3/4in (7cm) diameter Footnotes: The box sextant measures angles by means of double reflection in the conventional manner, it can also measure much larger angles by using the 'back sight' method.
