Inuit Sculpture of a Face and Three Arctic Animals
This finely-carved hand-sized sculpture made of grey steatite ("soap stone"), found throughout the Arctic region and worked by the native Inuit population, features the face and head of an Inuit. On the flat sides of the sculpture (that continue behind the Inuit carved face) two snow geese have been carved into the stone, and on the top of the human head is another Arctic animal, possibly a tundra vole (or a small wolverine). Signed E9-91.
