Crashing into the sea, Jean Gray rises from the waves as a new force of energy, the Phoenix. This is also the first issue where Wolverine proclaims his romantic feelings for Jean. Jean's connection to the Phoenix force would result in the penultimate story arc The Dark Phoenix.
