Description
United States, Connecticut & Western Europe, Germany, ca. early 20th century CE. An early pair of blown glass X-ray tubes with different types of metal pieces inside and attached to the exterior- the cathode plate (perhaps aluminum) and anodes (usually platinum) were placed inside. The larger glass is marked with the USA Green & Bauer shamrock logo, this type was designed for heavy currents and advertised in the 1900s as the so called "Clover Leaf" tube. The smaller tube is marked "GRP" with a balance scale logo and "Made in Germany." The light purple tint on the larger globular tube occurs due to use, when metallic buildup from reverse current flow. The glass vacuum converted electrical input power into X-rays which could penetrate opaque objects - such as human bodies- these were invaluable tools in the early field of radiography.
