Item Details
Description
Michael George (American, XXI). Pair of 2-part acrylic sculptures from "Gems" series, 2009. Signed and dated just above the base of the larger. A unique pair of two-part acrylic sculptures by Michael George from his "Gems" series. The larger "Gems" sculpture is comprised of a translucent blue wedge mounted within a translucent green discoid form, and the smaller "Gems" is comprised of a translucent green wedge mounted within a translucent blue discoid form. Both works combine the aesthetic allure of geometry and color with the transparent wonder of high quality acrylic. Acrylic only came to be used as an art medium during the 20th century after DuPont Company chemists patented the formula in 1937. Sculptors such as Naum Gabo appreciated the material's high refractive index and mesmerizing optical properties. With these two sculptures, Michael George creates an illusion of shifting visual planes, colors, and patterns as our eyes take in the luminous work. Size (larger): 1.9" L x 10.9" W x 12.9" H (4.8 cm x 27.7 cm x 32.8 cm)
