North America, United States, ca. 1895 & 1901 CE. A pair of 2 US copper Indian-head cent coins / pennies, minted in 1895 and 1901, the obverse is lady Liberty with a feather headdress and the reverse is a oak wreath with shield surrounding "ONE CENT." The Indian-head penny was minted from 1859 to 1909 before being replaced with the Wheat and Lincoln penny. The juxtaposition of a white woman's head with a Native American headdress that was reserved for men is problematic, but at the time of the design in 1858, ironically the headdress was thought to be an appropriate tribute to freedom. The 1895 penny is Good to Very Good (G, VG), areas are worn smooth and softening, but legends and date are readable. 1901 penny is Very Fine to Extra Fine (VF to EF), minor wear with sharp details and some dark toning. Both are displayed in cardboard flips.
