Limited Edition Sericel TALLSTACKS by Myron Waldman. This 16-field limited edition sericel was produced / published by Toon Art, Inc. in 1999 for King Features, the original producer / publisher of Popeye and Popeye the Sailor. Image by Myron Waldman; Numbered in the lower left - 2087/2500. Has the official King Features Syndicate logo in lower right of image. The original animation drawing, hand-inked/ hand-painted cel and painted background used to make this sericel are officially retired and vaulted at Toon Art. Includes original publisher numbered COA. Excellent Condition. Approx. Size: Measures 17" x 16.5" (Sericel and Background) and 17" X 13" (Cel).Additional Description: The Popeye character first appeared on January 17, 1929, in the daily King Features comic strip Thimble Theatre. The strip was in its tenth year when Popeye made his debut, but the one-eyed sailor quickly became the lead character, and Thimble Theatre became one of King Features' most popular properties during the 1930s. [From COA] Come aboard with Popeye, Brutus, Olive Oyl, Wimpy and the Nephews as they embark on a boating adventure. Waldman has more than 65 years of experience in the field of animation, having worked as a head animator at Fleischer Studios in the 1930's during the Golden Age of Animation, and later at Paramount's Famous Studios. He is renowned for his work on some of the best Popeye, Betty Boop and Casper the Friendly Ghost cartoons.
