Continental Parquetry Inlaid Walnut Slant Front Desk, 19th C., the rectangular top over a slant lid with an inset tooled leather writing surface and a fitted interior with four drawers and open storage, above a sliding lid stationery storage compartment, above two frieze drawers and a long lower drawer, on tapered square legs, H.- 37 1/2 in., W.- 34 1/4 in., D.- 18 in.

In overall good condition. Parquetry inlay largely intact with some age cracks and a small piece of veneer lacking from a cube on the front. There is a sizeable horizontal shrinkage crack to the left side. One drawer pull is detached and in a drawer; another has the sphere in the center of the pull detached. The left side of the slant top is slightly warped, but still locks if pushed in. Inside the desk top, two of the fitted drawers and an edge of the arched open storage space are lacking a piece of trim. The tooled writing surface is cracked and the inside wood has wear/rubbing to finish from use. The lock on the outside lower drawer is lacking. The feet exhibit some minor water damage to finish. Desk has nicks, scratches and light worm holes scattered throughout.
