Description
This piece for any majolica collector especially an Etruscan collector would definitely be the piece de resistance! The teapot was created during the early development of the GS&H Company but even then the workmanship is superb. I have researched this piece and have found it in one majolica book from 1992 which state it is very rare. I have also read that to actually see one that is not in a museum is a real treat. Well here it is, it could be yours!! The raised relief of the corn kernels and the husks are absolutely phenomenal. The color of the corn is a soft butter yellow with the yellow deepening in color in the crevices. The pink color of the inside is a light purplish pink color. This old girl has served a lot of tea! The inside is stained and when I washed it tea leaves actually came out of the spout. It is amazing that the spout has not been chipped. The only issue with this piece is the cracked lid. The previous owners have glued it back together and it appears all the pieces are there. The 2” crack can be seen on the top but doesn’t distract from the beauty of this teapot. I’ve read that if you do find this pot it will more than likely have a cracked lid due to the fact that they didn’t make the lids sides deep enough and when you pour it the lid falls out. This piece is so rare that it is worth the effort and expense to have it restored. IT IS RARE TO FIND MAJOLICA IN "LIKE NEW" CONDITION BECAUSE OF WEAR FROM USE AND AGE. TINY GLAZE FLAKES AND CRAZING IF PRESENT IS NORMAL AND ADDS CHARACTER TO EACH PIECE.
