"I Want to Take You Higher" Signed Copy by Kesey, Henke, and Garcia
A copy of "I Want to Take You Higher: The Psychedelic Era 1965-1969" signed by Ken Kesey, James Henke, and Carolyn Garcia. San Francisco: Chronicle Books, 1997. Printed for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, featuring photos and essays. Quarto, 206pp including an index. Signed "King Kesey" on the front free end page, "HIGH PRICE James Henke" on the half-title page, and "Mountain Girl" on page 65. Multiple color photographs throughout. With colorful paper wrappers. Minor edge and corner bumping. Large and bold signatures by all. Very fine overall.
Ken Kesey (1935-2001) was an American novelist, essayist, and countercultural figure who considered himself a link between the Beat Generation of the 1950s and the hippies of the 1960s. His friends and followers were known as the Merry Pranksters and included Carolyn "Mountain Girl" Garcia, who is the ex-wife of Grateful Dead lead vocalist Jerry Garcia. Carolyn met Kesey in 1964 and was given the name "Mountain Girl" because she was "a little bit wild". She soon joined the inner circle of Merry Pranksters and became romantically involved with Kesey, having a daughter by him named Sunshine. James Henke is currently a curator and vice-president of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland.
