Description

New York Colonial 5 Dollar Note August 1776

Circulated New York Colonial Note for Five Dollars, 4.375" x 2.688", August 13, 1776. Issued as No. 3994, and reading: “This Bill shall pass current in all Payments in this State, for Five Spanish Milled Dollars, or the Value thereof in Gold or Silver; according to the Resolution of the Convention of New-York, on the Thirteenth Day of August, 1776." Engraving on front features New York Arms and reads: "Tis Death to counterfeit." Engraved at verso is a candelabrum with thirteen candles which represent the original colonies. Printed in New York by Samuel Loudon. Expected wear includes light toning and minor soiling. In fine condition.
