Description
A large bronze statue measuring approx. 24.25" high. Statue is of a demonic looking man holding a lute and a rapier (some lute strings have come loose). On the bottom of the statue, it reads "Mephistopheles" and "Europa" along with the signature "DeWever". This is attributed to August De Wever (Belgian, 1836-1884). Statue is in good condition; note: the based has a slightly raised center as seen in photo. Per Wikipedia, "Mephistopheles is associated with the Faust legend of an ambitious scholar, based on the historical Johann Georg Faust. In the legend, Faust makes a deal with the devil at the price of his soul, Mephistopheles acting as the devil's agent."
