Description
1928 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Shooting Brake 1928 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Shooting Brake Registration No: YV 9253 Engine No: RL85 Chassis No: 95FH Purchased by Arthur H Wrey Esq. of Romany House, the Wentworth Estate, chassis 95FH was delivered to coachbuilders Windovers Limited on 12 May 1928 to be fitted with formal limousine coachwork. As was the case with many larger, more 'upright' Rolls-Royces of the period, by the 1950s the Phantom was in the possession of a funeral director based in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire. It then further passed through the hands of several owners until 1990 when it was purchased by fanatical car enthusiast and MP, the Rt Hon Alan Clark. Apparently coming into his possession in poor condition, but still as an original 'matching numbers' rolling chassis, the decision was made to re-body the car with Shooting Brake coachwork, which had earlier been transferred from a Silver Ghost. Clark sold the reconfigured Phantom in the 1990s through Sotheby’s, London. Single long-term ownership followed and 95FH was acquired by the present owners in 2007 for use on the estate as intended, as an extremely up-market 'gun bus', ferrying guests to their pegs in grand style. Presented in elegant two-tone green with pale yellow lining and 'elephant hide' roof, the Phantom is fitted with high-quality Marchal headlamps, large Boa Constrictor horn, nickel-plated fixtures and fittings, and twin side-mounted spares wheels. With bench seating for twelve adults, 'YV 9253' is a fabulously imposing, yet practical, commercial Vintage Rolls-Royce that could see further use on a country estate, earn its keep with promotional or film work, or simply be a fun and unique way for the whole family to get to the beach. Retaining its matching chassis and engine numbers, the Rolls-Royce has a history file containing Rolls-Royce Enthusiast Club build records, a buff continuation logbook, various invoices and MoT test certificates, instruction manual and current V5C document.Buyer’s Premium for lots 439-441 is at 12.5% plus VAT at 20%.
