Description
An antique Japanese Satsuma pottery vase converted into a table lamp with modern electrical fittings. Late Meiji era, before 1912. Tall rounded vase with pronounced neck. The piece is hand-painted with depictions of Japanese women in traditional clothing against the landscape background, as well as gilt floral ornaments. Wooden stand and fittings. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated.
