The view captures the entrance of the Mexican port and harbor, known as Zihuatanejo or Chequetan, or Seguatanco. Anson's remarkable firsthand account, "A Voyage Round the World" stands as one of the greatest chronicles of global voyages, adventure, and piracy from the age of exploration. Published in London in 1756, the book recounts Anson's daring mission to attack Spanish territories in western South America and plunder Spanish treasure galleons. The expedition carried significant risks, as capture by the Spanish would have resulted in charges of piracy and the subsequent execution of Anson and his crew. Embarking in 1740, Anson and his squadron faced numerous challenges, losing more than two-thirds of their crew and three out of eight ships during their perilous journey. However, their determination prevailed, and in 1744, on board their flagship, the Centurion, with a mere 125 men, they completed a circumnavigation of the globe. Anson's unwavering efforts ultimately led to the capture of the formidable Spanish treasure galleon, 'Nuestra Señora de Cobadonga' in 1743 off Cape Espiritu Santo on Samar Island in the Philippines. This momentous achievement earned Anson a promotion to the rank of Lord in the British crown and solidified his standing as one of the foremost English commanders during the Seven Years' War. The map itself is a copperplate engraving in excellent condition, measuring 21 1/2" x 11". Its authenticity is guaranteed, providing a unique and valuable glimpse into the entrance of the Mexican port of Zihuatanejo.
