Description
E. Barrett (American, 19th century), Two Rural Landscapes
both are watercolor on paper; the first depicting a scene with log cabin and figure in yard, 1884, signed and dated at lower right, matted and framed under glass (Frame dimensions 16 1/2 x 19 3/8 in.); the second a view of rolling pastures with cattle and buildings beyond, signed and dated at lower right (partially obscured by matting), matted and framed under glass (Frame dimensions 16 1/5 x 19 3/8 in.).
A hand-written note affixed to the verso of one watercolor identifies the artist as Elizabeth Hunt Barrett (1863-1955), who was active in Amherst, Virginia. However, the dates on these works are a bit early for Barrett and the signature is inconsistent with other works by her hand.
