Description
Elevette (Harrisburg PA) 1930's Elevator. U.S. Patent No. 1,714,297 (May 21, 1929). Capacity 400 lbs. Leland Ohio Motor Type RD. About the elevator: The elevator is located at Woodmere Art Museum’s Frances M. Maguire Hall for Art and Education. The building was previously owned by the Sisters of Saint Joseph, who used it as a convent. In the early 1930s, the Sisters installed an elevator in their residence, and it continues to function to this day. The manufacturer, Elevette, continues to operate out of Harrisburg, PA. The elevator functions and is a charming feature of the building, but it is not suited to the needs of a museum today. In addition to the cab, this lot includes the spooling cable, and cable's rail, and the motor. Buyer is responsible for removal the elevator in a timely manner and at their own expense. Woodmere Art Museum, dedicated to the artists of Philadelphia, is creating new galleries and building its education resources by expanding into a near-adjacent historic property, now renamed Frances M. Maguire Hall for Art and Education.
