China, Sung/Song Dynasty, Ca 12th to 14th century CE. A very interesting, and what must be considered rare, terracotta jar with mottled green glaze; exterior features a series of 20 "fingers" arranged in 4 columns of 5 each. We believe these to be silkworm chrysales (given the importance of the silk trade, it makes sense Chinese artists would revere them enough to feature them in their art). 9-1/2" H by 6-1/2" W to edge of bottom fingers.
