Item Details

Description

Apache coiled basketry water jug, late 19th century, constructed of coiled grasses covered in pine resin or pitch, having a long cylinder neck above a globular body, with vestiges of horsehair that would having composed the handle for the jug.

Approximate measurements: h. 14", dia. 8. 5".

Condition

Fair to poor, most of the pitch has been worn off, handles missing, part of neck missing, break at join between neck and body, large break and hole at midline of body, loss of coiling at the lower quadrant to the body,
