Rochester , NYThe glass plate at the back of the camera is reversible (and removable) as well as having a small brass lever to slightly open the frame in order to accommodate sliding in a dry plate holder. This frame is designed so that it tilts, and can be placed for a horizontal landscape photo or vertical portrait. The Empire State model was patented by Rochester Optical on August 31, 1886, and was intended as a more accessible, and less expensive version, than, the Ideal model by Rochester Optical.
