Native American, Southwestern United States, Four Corners region, Chaco Canyon, Anasazi, Pueblo I to II, ca. 900 to 1030 CE. A pottery pitcher of nice size made via the coil-and-scrape technique. Large swaths of black pigment create solid step blocks with parallel linear bands coursing in-between. Scholars believe that many of these motifs were inspired by weather and landscape phenomena in the high desert areas in which the Puebloan-Chaco tribes resided.
