Pedro, Isabel, and Rogelio Hernandez (San Jose de Gracia, Michoacan), pina de con hojas, modeled and molded clay, featuring drooping leaf applique copper oxide glaze, with removable top, with pineapple leaf motif, on tripod legs

Provenance: The collection of Michael Moss, who traveled for decades throughout the interior of Mexico acquiring fine folk art pieces to bring back to his Fredericksburg, Texas ranch home
Pedro Hernandez Carlos runs a workshop in San Jose de Gracia, Michoacan, an area home to the indigenous Purepecha people and their descendants. Working alongside his family, they harvest the clay from the local region, pulverize, and knead it until its ready to work with. Drawing from the natural world, he is known for incorporating motifs such as elote, birds, and agave leaves in his work. In 2008, he co-founded Tsitski Museo Comunitario, located at his home.
