1968/1969, numbered 1/200, annotated ‘J.210’ and stamped 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' on the underside. Red earthenware clay square plaque, printed with engobe pad.

Pablo Picasso first began experimenting in ceramic after visiting the Atelier Madoura studio in France in 1946, which was owned by Suzanne and Georges Ramié. He thereafter partnered with them to produce unique and creative pottery that combined form and function in new ways. For nearly thirty years, he created many series of ceramic plates, bowls, jugs, and other pieces adorned with playful designs, which showcased his traditional themes of faces, bullfighters, animals, and mythology.
