Description
A WOMAN IN AN INTERIOR. Early 19th century, China. Oil on silk. A finely executed portrait depicting a young woman leaning against a table holding an openwork fan. The table displays a vase with peonies. The woman with loose fitting silk robe decorated with roundels and wearing an elaborate headdress. She is passively regarding her two dogs at play by her feet. The two console tables in the background beneath a large window. Painting is unsigned. Housed in a simple molded frame. PROVENANCE: From the John Webber Estate of Bangor, Maine. SIZE: Sight is 68 1/2" h x 36" w. Overall is 72" x 39". CONDITION: there is an old repair of a tear in the canvas in upper right corner facing. Otherwise good. (05-569/TG). $3,000-$5,000.
