Description
Kang Youwei (March 19, 1858-March 31, 1927), the main initiator of the reform school in the late Qing Dynasty, was originally named Zu Yi, styled Guangsha, nicknamed Changsu, also known as Mingyi, Gengsheng, Xiqiao Shanren, Youwei Cunsou, Tianyouhua, from Danzaosu Village, Nanhai County, Guangdong Province, known as Kang Nanhai, a Jinshi in the 21st year of Guangxu (1895), and cooperated with his disciple Liang Qichao in the Reform Movement of 1898, also known as the Hundred Days Reform. Empress Dowager Cixi was wanted and fled. After Xuantong abdicated in 1912, Kang Youwei continued to oppose the republic. In 1917, he cooperated with Zhang Xun and launched a mutiny to support Emperor Xuantong for the restoration of Ding Si, but within twelve days he was flattened by Duan Qirui. Died of illness after a banquet in 1927.
