Chinese Ming Dynasty Chenghua Doucai Porcelain Bowl. The Bowl has a shallow body, slight deep, thick and bulbous body, with angled cavetto elevated the steep sides upward the flaring mouth rim, raised on a small round, with slight concave footing. The exterior hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglazed base color which contrast against doucai design color, is outlined in under glaze blue and filled in with over glaze colored enamels except blue colors which fit together but also contrasting or joined colors. Depicted of abundant lotus flowers blooms interspersed foliage and scrolling interlocking tendril. Lotus is one of the most significant flowers in the Chinese culture. It symbolizes the holy seat of Buddha. Because the flower rises from the mud and blooms in exquisite beauty it symbolizes perfection and purity of both the heart and mind. The Under base bears a reign mark, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within blue ring lines. Made in The Years Chenghua Reign Period of The Great Ming Dynasty.
