Description
Featured in this lot is a mid 1800s non-regulation British Artillery Officer's sword. This sword's design was inspired by the leather-gripped French Imperial Guard infantry sword, however, the hilt's languet, and length/width/straightness of the blade make the Royal Artillery sword unique. The sword's hilt is made of brass components with a D shape guard and wooden handle. There are no maker's marks present on the blade or hilt. The wood handle is cracked and worn and is missing spots of wood. There is a slight wiggle to the brass component on the grip. The blade shows a nice patina but has corrosion throughout the length of the blade. Overall, the sword is in good condition for its old age. The entire sword measures 30 1/2" L. The blade measures 26" L.*
