A gorgeous, vellum fan leaf hand-painted with the Biblical image of a courtly scene where a figure in a red toga kneels before a female royal, presenting her with an object in a gold basin - perhaps portraying the presentation of the head of Saint John the Baptist to Salome. All is rendered in classic Venetian tradition with the foreground opening to a city-scape in the background, framed rather theatrically by spiraling pilasters, in addition to the Islamic dress of the figures on the left next to the dog - reminiscent of Bassano, Titian, and Veronese - and the rich colors throughout. Only leaf of fan; missing sticks and other apparatus. Fit in modern gilt frame with suspension wire on verso for display; has not been examined outside of frame. Folds to leaf with minor tears and restoration in areas, but otherwise intact with nice preservation of pigments and detail.
