Description
A pair of sixth plate tintypes in identical patriotic mats housed in a fine thermoplastic case. Woman is Lydia Barker Clark, the dead soldier is her son Alonzo R Clark 31st Maine Volunteers. The rarity of this image cannot be impressed hard enough. This is the ONLY image I have ever handled showing a uniformed soldier in his casket. This poor 19 year old enlisted on March 11th 1864. He caught measles and died on April 23rd 1864. His father Moses picked up the corpse and brought it home where Alonzo was photographed for the last time. Typed family history accompanies these images. VG condition and an incredible rarity.
