Description
1931 1ed DRACULA Bram Stoker Horror Gothic Occult Transylvania Vampire Photoplay
“Dracula” is a Gothic horror novel by Bram Stoker, first published in 1897. It tells the story of Count Draculas attempt to move from Transylvania to England so that he may find new blood and spread the undead curse. The novel is written primarily in a then unique and now iconic, journal format and includes elements of horror, romance, and adventure.
Dracula has been labeled as one of the most important, popular, and scariest horror novels of all time. It helped establish many horror tropes that would appear in subsequent vampire fantasies in film, on stage, and in print. While the dating on this book says 1897, this first photoplay edition was printed in 1931, evidenced by the “blood red” cloth cover as the first photoplay edition. It was published to coincide with the release of the 1931 film and is illustrated with 4 stills from the Carl Laemmle, Jr. production starring Bela Lugosi and Helen Chandler.
