Description
1880 Jules Verne 1ed Steam House End of Nana Sahib STEAMPUNK India Hetzel
The work that helped establish the steampunk movement!
Much more so known for his popular titles, such as “20,000 Leagues” and “Around the World,” this Jules Verne novel has a much smaller, but loyal cult following. “The Steam House” takes place in the aftermath of the Indian Rebellion from 1857, but the novelty ensues as the story revolves around a huge steam-powered mechanical elephant! This work has been known by its alternate title, “The End of Nana Sahib,” however, this Hetzel printing uses the more well-known French title “La Maison a Vapeur” and is includes the famous “aux deux elephants” decorative cover.
This 1880 first edition is undated. While dating from most Verne editions come from ads, this particular printing has no ads – indicative of the first edition!
