Two long clay pipes in original box marked "William Southorn & Co.'s / Celebrated Long Broseley Churchwarden Pipe", circa 1880-1910. Churchwarden clay pipes are characterized by an extremely long stem - these 2 measuring 25 1/8""L; The pipes were made by William Southorn & Co, a tobacco pipe maker based in Broseley, Shropshire, England. Such a pipe was well suited to a leisure-time smoke, rather than when working as they are very long and fragile. One pipe has been used, the other unused - both with tight hairlines in bowl, and the used pipe possibly with loss on the end of stem, else good condition. The original box with stains and losses to ends. The box measures 27 1/2"L x 4"W x 2 3/4"H. Each pipe also with Broseley impressed marks.
