(Japanese, 1894-1978) ca. 1950, with museum or collector's serial number on back, includes later wooden stand, in custom fitted wooden box including two books on Japanese ceramics: "Contemporary Handicrafts in Japan", National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, September 25th-November 1st, 1964 and "Shoji Hamada: Master Potter", ed. by Timothy Wilcox, published by Lund Humphries Publishers, London, in Association with Ditchling Museum, Sussex, 1998.

Note: Designated Japanese National Living Treasure Shoji Hamada worked closely with Bernard Leach (1887-1979) as one of the most important ceramicists of the twentieth century. His works are found in major museums across the globe including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
